Description
What kind of wine it is
Oreno by Tenuta Sette Ponti is a renowned Tuscan Supertuscan with a rich and enveloping profile. This red wine is crafted from a meticulous blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, which provide an intense structure and a silky texture. On the nose, it offers a deep bouquet, where aromas of small red fruits, blackcurrant and blackberry stand out, enriched by notes of chocolate and balsamic hints. The palate develops dynamically, revealing well-integrated tannins that accompany spicy notes and touches of pipe tobacco towards a persistent and memorable finish.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the Vigna di Pallino, located in the area of Castiglion Fibocchi, in the province of Arezzo. The calcareous-clay soils, rich in stones and skeleton, provide the vines with optimal conditions to develop great elegance and depth of flavour. The estate is crossed by the Oreno stream, which gives the wine its name, and is set in a hilly landscape managed strictly under organic farming practices. The careful approach to sustainable viticulture, conducted with a spur-pruned cordon training system, ensures an ideal balance at every stage of growth.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with a fermentation with gentle punch-downs lasting about twenty-five days. Afterwards, the must undergoes a period of maceration on the skins of equal duration, which is essential for extracting the complex phenolic components and defining the character of the wine. The maturation continues for eighteen months in French oak barrels, a crucial step to enrich the aromatic profile and integrate delicate toasted notes. A further final ageing of twelve months completes the process, perfectly harmonising the structure before tasting.
History and Curiosities
Born in 1998 from the intuition of Antonio Moretti Cuseri, Oreno is the first historic wine of Tenuta Sette Ponti. It takes its name from the stream that runs through the estate, once the ancient residence of the Savoy family, and expresses the elegance of an organic Supertuscan capable of conquering international tables even before establishing itself in Italy. Voted best wine in Italy at the Best Italian Wine Awards 2017, this masterpiece boasts outstanding accolades of the highest level, including the prestigious 99/100 awarded by James Suckling and Decanter.

The oldest vineyard dates back to 1935 and has always been called the 'Vineyard of the Empire'. The vineyard was planted by His Royal Highness Duke Amedeo d'Aosta, Vice-King of Ethiopia, and so named to commemorate the victory in the African War and the birth of the Italian Colonial Empire with the conquest of Abyssinia. To this end, the Duke commissioned his uncle, His Royal Highness Count Emanuele Filiberto of Turin, General Designate of the Army and General of the Cavalry, to supervise the work to complete the vineyard as quickly as possible. The work proceeded not without difficulty due to a 30% difference in height that forced the land to be filled in and subsequently terraced, which is still visible today and was completed in 1939.
