Description

What kind of wine it is

Vaio Armaron Serego Alighieri is a remarkable red wine that embodies the spirit of Amarone della Valpolicella Classico. The result of a balanced blend of Corvina, Rondinella and the Molinara Serego Alighieri variety, it offers a warm, enveloping and structured sip. The drying of the grapes concentrates the aromas and the raw material, defining a deep aromatic profile. Produced by Masi, it reveals an intense and complex character, capable of expressing in the glass a pleasant illusion of sweetness.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from the Valpolicella Classica, specifically from the area of Gargagnago di Valpolicella. The vineyards of the historic Serego Alighieri estates benefit from an ideal climate that favours the perfect ripening of the bunches. The vines sink their roots into generous soils, with a rich supply of humus combined with an excellent percentage of limestone and clay. This combination of soil and climate gives the bunches excellent quality and supports the unmistakable depth of flavour that distinguishes the wine.

How it is produced

The bunches, hand-selected, rest for one hundred and twenty days before undergoing a long maceration on the skins and subsequent fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The ageing process involves maturation in Slavonian oak barrels followed by a period in cherry wood barrels. The result is a deep ruby red wine, with intense aromas of dried plums, cocoa, cinnamon and vanilla. On the palate it is full-bodied and enveloping, ideal for accompanying roasts, rich game stews or flavourful mature cheeses.

History and Curiosities

The prestigious Vaio Armaron celebrates the noble heritage of the direct descendants of Dante Alighieri, guardians of the vineyards of Gargagnago since 1353. The result of the expertise of Masi Agricola, this true icon of oenology comes to life in the vineyard from which the very name Amarone is said to originate. Its unmistakable aromatic richness is born from a meticulous 120-day drying process, while the traditional maturation in cherry wood barrels adds further complexity to this excellent 2017 vintage, already awarded by the most authoritative international guides.

Possessioni Serego Alighieri is located in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica district, surrounded by green hills and just a few kilometres from the historic city centre of Verona and the beauty of Lake Garda. In 1353, the charming Tenuta (estate), which was already famous for the quality of its vineyards, was bought by Pietro Alighieri, son of Dante the Poet, who had followed his father into exile in Verona.

For twenty-one generations, descendants of the Supreme Poet have lived in the Possessioni, a landmark site for viticulture in the Valpolicella region. Masi shares its great love for the land here with the Conti Serego Alighieri, working with them in the production of prestigious wines, heirs as they are of an ancient, noble and expert winemaking tradition.
