Description

What kind of wine it is

Sella & Mosca Medeus Cannonau di Sardegna is a still red wine that represents an authentic expression of Sardinia’s most renowned grape variety. Characterised by a bright ruby colour, it offers aromas of red fruit jam, Mediterranean scrub and balsamic hints of violet. On the palate, the sip is fresh and savoury, with a full and enveloping body. Soft tannins define a silky texture, leading to a long and harmonious finish. This wine interprets the Cannonau di Sardegna denomination with great precision, making it an ideal companion for flavourful first courses and grilled meats.

Where it comes from

The Cannonau grapes come from vineyards located near Alghero, in the heart of the historic Sella & Mosca estate. The vines are trained using the spur-pruned cordon method, with careful agronomic management to maintain low yields and enhance the territorial identity of the fruit. Constant care in the vineyard ensures optimal ripening of the grapes, giving the wine a smooth drinkability and impeccable taste balance.

How it is produced

The production process involves a fifteen-day maceration accompanied by temperature-controlled fermentation in steel tanks, which is essential for preserving the primary aromas. After malolactic fermentation, which adds softness, the wine matures for several months in a process involving steel, large barrels and concrete. This carefully calibrated ageing allows the power of the grape variety to be harmonised with refined elegance. To fully appreciate its complexity, it is recommended to decant for about an hour before tasting.

History and Curiosities

Born in Alghero from the expertise of Sella & Mosca, a historic estate founded in 1899, Medeus embodies the island's genuine passion for winemaking. Under the guidance of oenologist Giovanni Pinna, this Cannonau di Sardegna DOC 2024 offers an expressive interpretation of the region's signature grape variety, already appreciated by critics. Blending a noble historical legacy with a vibrant freshness on the palate, the wine captivates with intense aromas of red fruit jam and balsamic notes, celebrating the purest Sardinian winemaking tradition in every glass.

Sella & Mosca is one of the most important wineries in Sardinia, whose history began over a century ago when two Piedmontese men, the lawyer Mosca and the engineer Sella, reclaimed the land where the 540 hectares of vines now stand. On Xtrawine great attention is devoted to Sella & Mosca wines featuring bottles that have received major awards from Bibenda, Gambero Rosso and AIS, with an ageing capacity of 10 to 15 years. Today, the Cantina Sella & Mosca is owned by the Campari Group, which continues the production of bottles with the sunny character typical of the area in which they are located and involves the production of: Vermentino, Cannonau, Torbato and Carignano.
