Description
What kind of wine it is
Tanca Farrà Alghero Rosso by Sella & Mosca is an enveloping blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cannonau. Characterised by a deep red colour with violet hues, it offers an intense aromatic bouquet of morello cherry, myrtle, anise and rose water, enhanced by elegant hints of pipe tobacco. On the palate, it stands out for its silky and glyceric texture, supported by firm yet controlled tannins that give structure and volume to the sip. The finish is pleasantly persistent, with balsamic notes and hints of cocoa. Thanks to its complexity, it pairs perfectly with braised meats and game.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in Alghero, Sardinia, from the vineyards of the Sella & Mosca estate located in the I Piani area. Here, the vines grow on soils rich in clay and iron minerals, a composition that gives the wine a high aromatic concentration and a distinct gustatory precision. The agricultural management follows certified Equalitas sustainable protocols, demonstrating care for the ecosystem. Alghero Rosso represents the authentic expression of the Sardinian wine-growing region, offering a sip with a strong regional identity.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with the separate harvesting of Cannonau and Cabernet Sauvignon, to respect their different ripening times. After a period of cold cryomaceration, the must undergoes alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in steel tanks. Once the blend is created, the wine matures for three years, ageing first in small barrels and then in oak casks at a constant temperature. A further rest of at least six months in the bottle stabilises the organoleptic profile, ensuring the wine has a remarkable ageing potential.
History and Curiosities
Produced in Alghero at the sustainable Sella & Mosca estate, Tanca Farrà pays tribute to the “tanca”, a plot of land historically demarcated to protect the finest grapes, and the “farra”, a term linked to the island’s ancient agricultural tradition. This enveloping Alghero Rosso DOC is born from the union of Cannonau and Cabernet Sauvignon, grown on soils rich in clay and iron minerals. The 2022 vintage, awarded 91 points by James Suckling, stands out for its excellent ageing potential, releasing intense and persistent aromas of morello cherry and myrtle, enriched by sweet notes of tobacco.
