Description

What kind of wine it is

Sassoregale Maremma Toscana Poderalta Rosso Riserva is an intense red wine, the result of a refined blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese grapes. Its bouquet reveals clear notes of blackberry and mocha, interwoven with intriguing balsamic and iodine nuances. On the palate, it displays a powerful and aristocratic character, supported by a framework of firm tannins that are elegantly integrated. Its vibrant balance ensures a long-lasting finish, making it ideal for pairing with braised meats, game, and mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

The Sassoregale vineyards grow in Civitella Paganico, in the heart of the Maremma Toscana. Located in the province of Grosseto, along the eastern edge of the Ombrone river plain, the vines benefit from a bright and constantly breezy area, with altitudes ranging from 12 to 70 metres. The medium-textured soils with clay ensure proper vegetative development, imparting the structure and concentration typical of this renowned area of the Tyrrhenian coast.

How it is produced

Harvested at full ripeness, the grapes undergo gentle crushing and destemming. The must undergoes temperature-controlled fermentation in steel tanks, accompanied by targeted maceration on the skins. Pumping over and délestage operations optimise the extraction of structural components. The process concludes with ageing for about 18 months in French oak barrels, a crucial step to enhance the aromatic complexity and refine the tannic structure.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 2000, Sassoregale embodies the spirit of the Tyrrhenian coast through its Poderalta Rosso Riserva, a true excellence of the Maremma Toscana DOC. Created by oenologist Andrea Daldin among the sunlit vineyards of the Grosseto area, this wine expresses a noble character thanks to 18 months of ageing in French oak barriques. Awarded 92 points by Decanter, it stands out for its powerful and aristocratic profile with long persistence, capable of capturing the essence and vibrant biodiversity of an unspoilt territory.
