Description

What kind of wine it is

Villa Solais Vermentino di Sardegna by Santadi is a blend of Vermentino and Nuragus with a lively straw-yellow hue. The aromatic profile opens with clear notes of grapefruit, myrtle and orange blossom. On the palate, a pleasant freshness emerges, combined with a dry and savoury texture. The tasting experience is distinguished by balanced acidity and an enticing minerality, enriched by a delicate tannic note. This solid structure makes it an excellent aperitif, also ideal paired with seafood starters and white meats.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from vineyards trained on trellises in five municipalities of Basso Sulcis. In this specific area of southern Sardinia, the medium-textured soils, characterised by a balance of clay and sand, impart a clear savoury imprint to the sip. The local climate, marked by hot summers and mild winters, allows for optimal grape development. These environmental conditions result in a broad gustatory expression, capable of conveying the authentic character of the region.

How it is produced

Production begins with a manual harvest between September and October. The bunches undergo gentle pressing, followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature to preserve the integrity of the aromas. Before bottling, the wine matures on its own lees for several months. This step gives greater volume on the palate and prolongs the persistence, resulting in a dry, taut sip with clear aromatic purity.

History and Curiosities

Villa Solais takes its name from the ancient Sardinian villages kissed by the sun, fully expressing the soul of the region. Produced by the renowned Cantina Santadi, founded in 1960, this Vermentino di Sardegna DOC is born in the heart of Basso Sulcis, where clay and sandy soils nourish vines constantly caressed by the wind. Thanks to the expert guidance of oenologists Riccardo Curreli and Giorgio Marone, the wine offers the palate a pleasant freshness, enriched by an enticing minerality. A label capable of telling the true oenological essence of the island.

The Santadi Winery came into being in1960, when a group of grape growers, coordinated by ETFAS, the Land Reform Board of Sardinia, joined forces to set up a cooperative winemaking and marketing business. The place was – and is – Santadi, south-western Sardinia, in the heart of the Sulcis district.

Since then, the only direction has been upwards, as the Santadi wines continue to spread and reap appreciation worldwide. A success story made possible by the whole team, which includes the grape growers, directors, marketing staff and all winery workers, forming a reservoir of expertise that is an asset for the whole territory.
