Description

What kind of wine it is

Pani Loriga by Santadi is a still red wine that honestly expresses the authenticity of Cannonau di Sardegna. To the eye, it displays an intense ruby red colour, heralding a direct and fragrant sensory profile. On the palate, it offers a silky and elegant sip, characterised by clear aromas of crisp, freshly picked red fruit. Its balanced structure makes it an ideal choice to accompany the entire meal with versatility.

Where it comes from

This Cannonau originates in the Basso Sulcis area of Sardinia, from carefully tended, trellised vineyards. The vines sink their roots into distinctive sandy and granitic soils, a mineral composition that gives the wine a precise territorial identity and notable smoothness. This origin lends the wine remarkable flexibility at the table, harmoniously enhancing succulent meat main courses, spicy recipes, and structured vegetarian dishes.

How it is produced

The production cycle begins in September with the manual harvest. Afterwards, the grapes ferment in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature for about fifteen days; during this phase, maceration and pumping over allow for optimal extraction of polyphenols from the skins. Next, the wine matures through cement ageing for several months, stabilising its fragrant organoleptic profile and maintaining maximum consistency with the characteristics of the original grape variety.

History and Curiosities

The Pani Loriga 2023 from Santadi expresses the authentic soul of Lower Sulcis, born from Cannonau grapes grown on sandy and granitic soils. Hand-harvested in September, the grapes ferment in stainless steel for fifteen days with expert pump-overs, extracting the best aromas and colour. The subsequent ageing in cement tanks gives this wine a vibrant, intense ruby red colour and a silky and elegant palate. Perfect when served at 14-16°C after an hour of decanting, it offers fragrant notes of crisp red fruit.

The Santadi Winery came into being in1960, when a group of grape growers, coordinated by ETFAS, the Land Reform Board of Sardinia, joined forces to set up a cooperative winemaking and marketing business. The place was – and is – Santadi, south-western Sardinia, in the heart of the Sulcis district.

Since then, the only direction has been upwards, as the Santadi wines continue to spread and reap appreciation worldwide. A success story made possible by the whole team, which includes the grape growers, directors, marketing staff and all winery workers, forming a reservoir of expertise that is an asset for the whole territory.
