Description
What kind of wine it is
Santa Cristina Chianti Superiore is a still red wine that fully enhances the character of Sangiovese. To the eye, it appears an intense ruby red with slight violet reflections. The bouquet is rich, defined by clear morello cherry notes, hints of aromatic herbs and balsamic nuances. On the palate, it is smooth and soft, supported by velvety tannins that lead to a persistent and savoury finish. Ideal with pork, game and cheeses, it is best served between 14 and 16°C, after one hour of decanting.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in Tuscany, in the heart of the Chianti Superiore region. Produced by Santa Cristina, the project comes to life in a winery dedicated to creating reds true to their place of origin. The identity of this Tuscan red expresses a very authentic fruity profile, balanced by a measured structure. The microclimate and growing environment ensure a strong capacity for ageing, guaranteeing excellent development over time for an estimated period of between five and ten years.
How it is produced
The process involves a differentiated approach to enhance the grapes. Part of the must undergoes maceration for about a week at 25°C to extract soft tannins and preserve the fruity aromas. The main portion remains in contact with the skins for longer at 30°C, with targeted wettings to maximise flavour intensity. After malolactic fermentation, maturation continues in stainless steel tanks, a technical choice that preserves the fruit's expressiveness and ensures a balanced profile.
History and Curiosities
The Santa Cristina Chianti Superiore 2024, produced at the Tuscan winery of the same name inaugurated in 2006, magnificently expresses the pure Sangiovese. A carefully managed vinification with double maceration and subsequent ageing in stainless steel tanks enhances its intense notes of black cherry and elegant balsamic sensations. Signed by oenologists Bezzi and Balzi, this still red offers a soft and enveloping sip, enriched by velvety tannins and a long, savoury finish. With a longevity of 5-10 years, it also guarantees excellent evolution over time.
