Description
What type of wine it is
Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore Stefano Antonucci by Santa Barbara is a still white wine from the Marche region with a Denominazione di Origine Controllata status and a structured profile. Produced exclusively from Verdicchio grapes, it is distinguished by a fresh bouquet featuring aromas of ripe yellow and exotic fruit, citrus zest, white flowers, and sweet spices. On the palate, it is savoury and voluminous, supported by a lively minerality that enhances its texture. The long, citrusy finish ensures remarkable persistence, making it the ideal pairing for seafood dishes, risottos, white meats, and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This label originates from the hillside vineyards of Barbara, located in the heart of the Castelli di Jesi area. The vines grow at an altitude of approximately 260 metres, with an east and south-east exposure. The medium-textured clay soils give the wine its characteristic savoury imprint and a solid structure. The proximity to the Adriatic Sea plays a fundamental role in preserving the natural freshness of the grapes. In this setting, the Santa Barbara winery, located in an ancient monastery between the Misa and Nevola rivers, makes the most of the local microclimatic conditions to offer a broad expression that is faithful to the Marche territory.
How it is produced
Following manual harvesting at full ripeness, the Verdicchio grapes undergo fermentation in stainless steel at a controlled temperature for four weeks. The wine then matures in French oak barrels, a choice that allows the wood to enrich the aromatic complexity without overpowering the fruit. Ageing continues for approximately twelve months on the fine lees, followed by a further six months of bottle ageing. The result is an enveloping and well-rounded glass, in which the distinct minerality integrates harmoniously with the evolved notes and vibrant varietal expression.
