Description

What kind of wine it is

Pathos by Santa Barbara is a still red wine with Indicazione Geografica Tipica from the Marche region. It is created from a blend of grapes Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which gives it a significant and bold structure. On the nose, it reveals notes of blackberry, raspberry and ripe cherry, followed by hints of red pepper, menthol and a touch of mineral graphite. On the palate, it stands out for its immediate smoothness and velvety tannins, offering a harmonious drink with remarkable persistence of flavour, the result of steel vinification and ageing in barrels.

Where it comes from

The vines grow on the hills of Barbara, in the province of Ancona, between the Misa and Nevola rivers. At around two hundred and sixty metres above sea level, the rows benefit from their proximity to the Adriatic Sea and optimal north-east exposure. The medium-textured soils are notably rich in stones and rocky fragments. This pedoclimatic environment gives the grapes a distinct mineral character, encouraging the development of grapes ideal for a wine with a measured structure and a strong sense of place.

How it is produced

The spurred cordon training system ensures the grapes ripen correctly. After careful vinification in stainless steel, which helps preserve the aromatic integrity, the wine undergoes a targeted period of ageing in wooden barrels. This maturation perfects the integration of the tannic component and enriches the flavour profile. Served at 18°C, it is an excellent accompaniment for braised red meats, game dishes and mature cheeses.

History and Curiosities

Born in 1984 from the passion of the Antonucci family, Pathos di Santa Barbara combines authentic Marche tradition with a bold spirit of innovation. Located in an ancient monastery between the Misa and Nevola rivers, the winery cultivates its own vineyards to produce wines of great character. Under the guidance of oenologist Pierluigi Lorenzetti, this international blend has won over critics thanks to its elegance and marked expressive strength, turning every sip into a memorable emotional expression of local identity.

The name Santa Barbara pays homage to our land, our tradition and those we worship. The history of this place dates back to the 6th century when Senigallia was a Byzantine city and a Lombardic (and therefore "barbarian") outpost was
set up in a nearby village. Since then, that village took the name of Barbara which is where our winery is located today, having the privilege of being housed in an old monastery.

Our winery is located 25 km from the Adriatic Sea and is located on the hills that run between the Misa and Nevola rivers. Here a team of professionals works in the winery and vineyards every day, fuelled by passion, determination and a pinch of creativity so that our grapes maintain their beauty and express the quality of our land.
