Description

What kind of wine it is

Nebbiolo d’Alba Valmaggiore by Sandrone is a medium-bodied red that faithfully expresses the characteristics of the Nebbiolo grape. On the palate, it is well-balanced, thanks to vibrant acidity and mature, finely-grained tannins that lend a deep silkiness. It releases aromas of cherries, wild berries, white flowers and liquorice, finishing with a long persistence enriched by mineral and earthy nuances. It pairs perfectly with rustic cuisine, making it ideal with mature cheeses or a roast pork shank.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from the Valmaggiore vineyard, located in Vezza d’Alba on the left bank of the Tanaro river, in the heart of the Roero. This area forms a hillside amphitheatre with excellent sun exposure, steep slopes and an ideal microclimate. The vines sink their roots into soft, sandy soils, a natural element that ensures the wine has marked freshness. These soil and climate conditions guarantee healthy bunches, capable of conveying the authentic territorial expression into the glass.

How it is produced

Production is based on strict manual management and meticulous harvesting. In the winery, there is a spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, combined with maceration in steel vats. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures in French oak barrels, acquiring harmony and structure. The process concludes with bottle ageing of at least nine months, essential for stabilising the aromatic profile and giving the wine excellent ageing potential.

History and Curiosities

The renowned hillside amphitheatre of Valmaggiore, in the Roero region, boasts a nineteenth-century tradition that has deeply captivated the Sandrone family. In this sun-kissed vineyard, manual harvesting on steep sandy soils enhances an exceptional microclimate. Included in the prestigious “sibi et paucis” project, the 2023 vintage offers a sip of silky elegance, already celebrated by the international critics with excellent scores. A highly charming red wine that carries forward the refined winemaking history of the area.

"Le Garagiste". Our story started in the 70s in our Family garage and since then it's been brought forward with heart, commitment and much presence of mind. From the simple things, Sandrone's philosophy was born. Today as much as yesterday, but with stronger and solid roots, we keep on doing our work well.

Since the first beginning of his story, Luciano Sandrone has always had a clear philosophy of quality in mind, which has always been fully shared with his wife Mariuccia, his brother Luca and his daughter Barbara. Year after year this philosophy has been refined.
