Description
What kind of wine it is
Sandrone Dolcetto d’Alba is a still red wine made from Dolcetto grapes grown on the Piedmont hills of Langa. An authentic expression of Dolcetto d’Alba, this red focuses on freshness, balance and soft tannins. In the glass, it displays a vibrant ruby colour with elegant violet highlights. The bouquet offers aromas of black cherry and plum, combined with small red fruits and delicate spicy hints of cinnamon. On the palate, it is dry and enveloping, finishing with a typical delicately almondy aftertaste.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from eleven vineyards located on the highest hills in the Barolo area, with plots situated in the municipalities of Barolo, Monforte d’Alba and Novello. These sites often exceed three hundred and fifty metres in altitude and rest on white soils, distinctly rich in limestone. This geological matrix ensures a dry flavour profile and a clear freshness. The bunches are harvested at full ripeness during September, ensuring intact fruit that is processed separately to enhance the identity of each individual plot.
How it is produced
The process begins with a spontaneous fermentation carried out by indigenous yeasts, followed by maceration and alcoholic fermentation in open vats. To preserve the fruity character and aromatic clarity, malolactic fermentation and maturation take place in steel containers, with no ageing in wood. After a careful selection of the best batches to create a balanced blend, the wine is refined in bottle for at least three months. When tasted, it is perfect paired with pasta dishes, cheeses and flavourful meat or game-based courses.
History and Curiosities
The bond between the Dolcetto grape variety and the land comes alive in the authentic Langa tradition of Luciano Sandrone. This red wine is born from 11 vineyards above 350 metres, on the white, chalky soils of Barolo. With a rigorous separate vinification using indigenous yeasts, the selections are blended into an enveloping sip with an almondy finish. The 2024 vintage, awarded 93 points by James Suckling, expresses the essence of Piedmont with fruity aromas and smooth tannins.
