What kind of wine it is
Collezione Cinquanta by San Marzano is a still red wine created from a meticulous blend of Negroamaro and Primitivo grapes. With a ruby red colour and purple highlights, it offers an intense and complex aromatic profile of plum and jam, with hints of vanilla and liquorice. On the palate, it reveals a powerful structure, great smoothness and a long, persistent finish. This still red wine is at its best as a meditation wine, but also pairs well with hearty dishes, grilled red meats, game and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in San Marzano, in Salento, at around one hundred metres above sea level, where the moderately high summer temperatures favour the concentration of aromas. The medium-textured clay soils, shallow and rich in stones, give depth and character to the sip. The fruit comes exclusively from old bush-trained vines over fifty years old, cultivated with low yields. Harvesting takes place in September through manual picking of bunches in a slightly overripe state, ensuring superior flavour intensity.
How it is produced
The production process begins with destemming and crushing of the grapes, followed by a cold pre-fermentation maceration to encourage the gentle extraction of colour and aromatic components. Alcoholic fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts, while separation from the skins is achieved through gentle pressing. Subsequently, malolactic fermentation is completed in steel tanks to preserve the fragrance of the fruit. The final ageing lasts twelve months in French oak barrels, an essential step to round out the tannic structure and enrich the complex aromatic profile with elegant spicy nuances.

Created in 2012 to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Cantine San Marzano, this captivating meditation wine perfectly expresses Salento tradition. It is a refined non-vintage cuvée, produced from ancient bush-trained vines over fifty years old. The result is a commemorative edition of rare elegance, capable of encapsulating the soul of Apulia and a story that began in 1962. The prestige of this creation is confirmed by excellent reviews, including the renowned 97 points from Luca Maroni.
