Description

What kind of wine it is

Chianti Classico Le Baroncole Riserva from San Giusto a Rentennano is a still organic red of great structure. Made from a blend of Sangiovese and Canaiolo Nero, it displays a bold profile, balanced by a brilliant freshness and well-integrated tannins. The texture combines power and drive, offering a deep sip. The long finish closes on elegant smoky notes, outlining an experience of remarkable stylistic precision.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in the heart of the Sienese territory, in Gaiole in Chianti. The San Giusto a Rentennano estate stands within the walls of an ancient Cistercian monastery, a place rich in history and winemaking tradition. Here, the soil and microclimate favour ideal ripening, giving the wine a natural garnet hue. The territorial identity is reflected in a faithful expression of Chianti Classico, delivering an authentic and vibrant sip.

How it is produced

The grapes are harvested between the end of September and the beginning of October. In the cellar, fermentation and maceration take place in cement and steel vats for a period of eighteen to twenty days. Afterwards, the wine rests in French oak barrels for a period ranging from sixteen to twenty months, according to the specific needs of the blend. A final ageing of about six months perfects its balance. The deep bouquet weaves together hints of flint and cherry with tertiary aromas of graphite, humus, tobacco, juniper and nutmeg.

San Giusto a Rentennano (name of Etruscan origin), is set high on the river Arbia in the southernmost part of Chianti Classico. Ancient Cistercian monastery (hence formerly called San Giusto alle Monache), then indomitable fortress, was marked on the border, according to a treaty of 1204, between the counties of Siena and Florence. Guelph battlements of the castle remain of the wall, the massive walls and Barbican underground cellars, still used for aging wine in barrels. Property of the Martini family of Cigala since 1914, today the brothers Anna, Lucia, Elisabetta, Francesca, Alessandro, Luca. Read more
