Description
What kind of wine it is
San Felice Pugnitello is a red wine that elegantly interprets the Pugnitello grape variety. The result of years of academic research aimed at recovering ancient local varieties, this Tuscan red offers the palate a pronounced smoothness. Its significant structure is combined with a deep aromatic profile, dominated by notes of wild berry jam, cinnamon, cloves and tobacco. A fleshy sip, enriched by intense savoury returns, ideal to accompany flavourful first courses, roast meats, game and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
The wine is produced in Castelnuovo Berardenga thanks to the meticulous work of San Felice. The vineyards are managed with a focus on sustainability and are individually tended, taking into account the different slopes of the land. The medium-textured soils, rich in stones, are mainly composed of calcareous-marl clays formed from the disintegration of Alberese and Galestro rocks. This specific geological base nourishes the roots deeply and imparts a distinct savoury character to the wine, outlining a remarkable potential for ageing.
How it is produced
The grapes are harvested during the first week of October, then fermented on the skins in stainless steel tanks for about twenty to twenty-five days. Once malolactic fermentation is complete, the wine is aged in French oak barrels for a period ranging from eighteen to twenty months, an essential stage that consolidates its structure and integrates the aromatic range. The final rest takes place in the bottle for a further eight months, definitively setting the velvety texture and elegance of the sip.
