Description
What kind of wine it is
Ruffino Brunello di Montalcino Greppone Mazzi is a still red wine, also suitable for those following a vegan diet, which fully enhances the essence of Sangiovese Grosso. Characterised by a ruby colour with elegant garnet highlights, it reveals a dry, warm and enveloping profile. The rounded tannins are harmoniously integrated into a robust structure, accompanied by intense notes of plum, blackcurrant and cherry. The palate offers a persistent finish, enriched by balsamic nuances and hints of sweet tobacco, making it ideal to pair with grilled meats, game stews and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the Greppone Mazzi Estate, located on the hills of Montalcino. The vineyards stretch between 210 and 460 metres above sea level, an altitude that encourages gradual and consistent ripening of the grapes. The soils, characterised by a loamy-clay and loamy-silt matrix, have a high concentration of rocky fragments. This particular composition ensures optimal drainage, giving the wine a profound structural elegance. The combination of varying altitudes and the richness in stones of the soil gives this red a balanced and rigorously complex profile.
How it is produced
The harvest is carried out by hand in mid-October. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature for about two weeks, followed by a ten-day maceration on the skins to achieve a balanced extraction. Once malolactic fermentation is complete, the wine begins its maturation journey in oak barrels for thirty-six months. After a six-month rest in steel, the production cycle concludes with a further final refinement of eight months, essential for the development of refined notes of incense, cocoa and black pepper.
