Description
What kind of wine it is
Rolly Gassmann Alsace Gewurztraminer is an aromatic still white wine with a pale straw yellow colour, faithfully expressing the character of the Gewurztraminer grape. The bouquet is distinctly spicy, featuring clear aromas of ginger, cinnamon and fragrant orange zest. On the palate, it boasts an opulent structure, maintaining excellent balance thanks to the freshness imparted by hints of grapefruit. This white wine is ideally suited to spicy Asian cuisine, and also pairs perfectly with mature cheeses and delicate dishes based on poultry or lean fish.
Where it comes from
The grapes are sourced from the areas of Rorschwihr and Bergheim, in the heart of Alsace. This region benefits from the protection of the Vosges mountain range, making it one of the driest areas in France. The hot summers favour perfect ripening of the grapes, while the remarkable complexity of the soils, rich in limestone, marl and clay with sandy and granitic veins, defines the structure of the wine. In this privileged context, Rolly Gassmann has been cultivating the land since 1611, following strict organic and sustainable practices.
How it is produced
After meticulous manual selection at full ripeness, the grapes undergo gentle pressing. Fermentation takes place in individual tanks thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts, which are essential for preserving the fruit's identity. The use of separate vinification for each individual vineyard allows the specific characteristics of each plot to be fully expressed. This is followed by a short rest of a few months and a long maturation of around two years before release, a key stage for harmonising and enhancing the final flavour profile.
