Description
What kind of wine it is
Chardonnay is the star of Valentino Brut, a Piedmontese Metodo Classico of rare elegance. In the glass, it stands out for its golden hues and a slow, fine perlage. The bouquet harmonises notes of ripe yellow fruit and mango with a lively citrus imprint. On the palate, it reveals a firm structure, where savouriness blends harmoniously with the acidic backbone for a dynamic sip. Tasting offers a remarkable persistence and a clean finish, enhanced by elegant toasted notes.
Where it comes from
This sparkling wine is produced in Piedmont, in Monforte d’Alba, at the heart of the Langhe. Rocche dei Manzoni has made its mark on the local wine scene by rigorously focusing on excellence through the Metodo Classico. The vineyards, cultivated using the Guyot system, boast a density of 4,500 vines per hectare. Through controlled yields, the winery obtains bunches of great concentration. This approach gives the Chardonnay a distinct aromatic definition and excellent flavour persistence, a true reflection of its terroir.
How it is produced
The production process faithfully follows the principles of the Metodo Classico. The wine undergoes maturation on the lees for at least 120 months, followed by remuage and disgorgement, which impart refined roundness and subtle woody hints. Served between 6 and 8°C, it expresses perfect dynamic balance. It is the ideal pairing to accompany delicate starters, dishes based on lean fish, and fine cheeses, enhancing every flavour with its vivid freshness.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1974 by Valentino Migliorini, the Rocche dei Manzoni winery has made history in the Langhe region by immediately embracing the Traditional Method. The Valentino Brut 2012 perfectly embodies this bold vision: a pure Chardonnay expressing elegant toasted notes and a refined perlage. Its complexity comes to life thanks to an ageing on the lees for 120 months, creating a dynamic balance between freshness and savouriness. Awarded 95 points by Vinous, this sparkling wine represents the excellence of a winery dedicated to long-term evolution over time.

Working with the strength of his winemaking experience and his innate ability to stay ahead of the times, in 1976, Valentino created the first Langhe blended wine: Bricco Manzoni, a blend of Nebbiolo and Barbera grapes. But he decided to go even further and, a couple of years later, in 1978, he began producing sparkling wine using the traditional method and introduced the use of small oak barrels for the aging of red wines. Migliorini was the first to import the small oak barrels to the Langhe, and in a short time these numbered 300 units.
By 1982 the small oak barrels were used for all vinification and, in 1999, the first 10-year reserve Barolo was produced. Experimentation has marked the entire production of Rocche dei Manzoni and, together with attention to detail, it has led the winery to become a great interpreter of Piedmontese red wines and opened the way for the traditional method of sparkling wine production in the Langhe.
It would take other producers more than thirty years to try their hand at sparkling wine production. Read more
