Description
What kind of wine it is
Rocche dei Manzoni Langhe Chardonnay L’Angelica is an elegant still white wine that masterfully interprets the unique characteristics of the Piedmontese region. Made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes, it appears in the glass with a straw yellow colour enhanced by golden highlights. The bouquet opens with delicate floral notes of linden and sage, which gradually give way to a citrusy and fruity character of yellow kiwi, peach, medlar and citron. On the palate, it reveals an enveloping and well-balanced structure, enlivened by a lively fresh-savoury tension that prolongs its flavourful persistence.
Where it comes from
This white wine is born on the hills of Monforte d’Alba, in the heart of the Langhe production area in Piedmont. The Rocche dei Manzoni winery stands out for its constant dedication to oenological research. The experience gained by the producer, a pioneer in local sparkling wine production using the Traditional Method, translates into highly precise viticulture. In this particularly suited area, the vines benefit from an ideal microclimate that allows the wine to maintain a perfect balance between aromatic intensity and structure, ensuring remarkable longevity.
How it is produced
The winemaking process aims to preserve the natural freshness and expressive richness of the grapes. After fermentation, the process continues with careful ageing in small oak barrels, a technical choice that imparts depth and roundness without overpowering the varietal character of the Chardonnay. This skilful management of the wood results in a harmonious and velvety sip. Thanks to its smoothness, it is perfect paired with lean fish and delicate poultry-based dishes. Its versatility also makes it an excellent companion for vegetarian preparations and for enhancing the flavour of cheeses.
History and Curiosities
Founded in Monforte d’Alba in 1974, the Rocche dei Manzoni estate cultivates 60 hectares in the Langhe, standing out for its deeply pioneering spirit. The constant drive for innovation, evident in the use of small oak barrels and the local traditional method, also defines the character of the Langhe Chardonnay L’Angelica 2023. Under the careful guidance of oenologist Giuseppe Albertino, this still white from Piedmont embodies the meticulous attention to detail of the estate, offering an elegant expression that pays homage to the region.

Working with the strength of his winemaking experience and his innate ability to stay ahead of the times, in 1976, Valentino created the first Langhe blended wine: Bricco Manzoni, a blend of Nebbiolo and Barbera grapes. But he decided to go even further and, a couple of years later, in 1978, he began producing sparkling wine using the traditional method and introduced the use of small oak barrels for the aging of red wines. Migliorini was the first to import the small oak barrels to the Langhe, and in a short time these numbered 300 units.
By 1982 the small oak barrels were used for all vinification and, in 1999, the first 10-year reserve Barolo was produced. Experimentation has marked the entire production of Rocche dei Manzoni and, together with attention to detail, it has led the winery to become a great interpreter of Piedmontese red wines and opened the way for the traditional method of sparkling wine production in the Langhe.
It would take other producers more than thirty years to try their hand at sparkling wine production. Read more
