Description
What type of wine it is
Roccardo di Rocche Costamagna is a still red wine from Piedmont made entirely from Nebbiolo grapes. Belonging to the famous Langhe denomination, this wine expresses an intense aromatic profile, characterised by distinct notes of violet, raspberry, and wild strawberry. On the palate, it presents an elegant and harmonious structure, well-supported by soft tannins that ensure a perfect balance of flavour. Its clean and measured style is the result of careful vinification and partial ageing in Slavonian oak barrels, making it a technically precise and versatile wine.
Where it comes from
This Nebbiolo originates in Piedmont, coming specifically from vineyards located in the municipalities of La Morra and Verduno. In this area of the Langhe, the sandy soil plays a fundamental role in defining the aromatic character and linear expression of the wine. The winery, founded in 1841, manages fifteen hectares of property with rigorous attention to production balance, operating with a density of five thousand five hundred plants per hectare. The wine then rests inside historic Napoleonic-era cellars, an architectural detail that testifies to the territory's deep viticultural vocation.
How it is produced
The production process begins in autumn with the harvest between the end of September and the beginning of October. Subsequently, maceration on the skins takes place for eight to ten days at a controlled temperature of twenty-seven degrees, ideal for the correct extraction of colour and phenolic compounds. After racking and the completion of malolactic fermentation, the wine undergoes a partial maturation phase of twelve months in Slavonian oak barrels. The production cycle concludes with a further six months of bottle ageing, necessary to stabilise and fully define the sensory profile.
History and interesting facts
Founded in 1841, the Rocche Costamagna estate represents historical Piedmontese excellence, having cultivated vines in the La Morra territory for six generations. Under the careful guidance of oenologist Alessandro Locatelli, the fifteen hectares located between La Morra and Verduno generate an annual production of one hundred thousand bottles. The charm of this ancient winery is also expressed in the wine's resting place, as it matures within majestic Napoleonic-era cellars, now beautifully restored to offer tasting tours to all wine enthusiasts.
