Description
What kind of wine is it
Barolo Rocche di Castiglione by Roagna is a red wine produced exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes, a pure expression of the Barolo region. Characterised by a bright garnet colour, it reveals refined aromas of violet, rosewater and powder, enriched with notes of star anise, tonka bean and gentian. On the palate, it is austere and profound, supported by noble tannins and a vibrant savoury texture that extends the finish, giving this red an extraordinary capacity for evolution.
Where does it come from
The grapes come from the historic Rocche di Castiglione vineyard, located in Castiglione Falletto adjacent to the winery. These are old vines over forty years old, originating from ancient massal selections. The clay-limestone soil, rich in sand and white rocks, imparts the wine with the authentic identity of the terroir, enhancing its structure, finesse and mineral component.
How is it produced
Production follows a careful philosophy: after manual harvesting, vinification takes place in wooden vats thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts. The must undergoes a slow submerged cap maceration lasting about two months. Ageing then continues for five years between cement tanks and large oak barrels, a long rest that shapes its austere character and complex depth.
