Description
What kind of wine it is
Roagna Barbaresco Montefico Vecchie Viti is a robust red wine from Piedmont, made from Nebbiolo grapes. On the nose, it reveals a slightly smoky profile with a bouquet featuring notes of cocoa, liquorice and cherry, accompanied by hints of aromatic herbs. On the palate, it is smooth, supported by mature tannins that lead to a long and persistent finish. This distinctly evolving Barbaresco offers a complex experience, enhanced by an extremely limited annual production.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the Montefico parcel of the Roagna estate, located in the municipality of Barbaresco. Its identity is based on a rigorous massal selection, aimed at preserving the integrity of the vineyard's original genetic material. The vines, which are over fifty years old, have developed a deep root system, capable of drawing nourishment from the various layers of soil. This viticultural approach allows for a pure and complex expression of the site of origin, conveying the most authentic soul of the territory into the glass.
How it is produced
Production focuses on enhancing grapes from historic vines to highlight the excellence of the raw material. After vinification, the wine undergoes a lengthy five-year maturation, carefully resting in wooden and concrete casks. The combined use of these vessels promotes optimal structural stability, ensuring aromatic precision and extraordinary longevity. In line with Roagna's philosophy, the wood used for the casks may come from the vineyard's own prunings, reinforcing an unbreakable bond with the surrounding environment.
