Description
What kind of wine it is
The Blauburgunder Pinot Nero from Ritterhof is a still red wine that embodies the essence of the South Tyrol region. On the nose, it offers clear aromas of raspberry and cherry, introducing an elegant and structured sip. On the palate, it expresses a distinct varietal character, balanced by savoury nuances and a persistent, remarkably intense finish. This wine naturally accompanies rich dishes: after an hour of decanting, its mineral notes enhance succulent roasts, grilled red meats and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This red originates in the Bassa Atesina, from vineyards located near the municipality of Montagna and in some plots on the Renon. The rows are found in mountainous areas between 450 and 600 metres above sea level, an ideal altitude for the aromatic development of the grapes. The gravelly clay and porphyry soils give the wine a characteristic gustatory tension. Ritterhof follows a philosophy based on respect for nature, tending these mountain vineyards with dedication to achieve in the glass the purest expression of the South Tyrol terroir.
How it is produced
The Pinot Nero grapes, from vines trained using the Guyot system, are harvested exclusively by hand to ensure controlled yields and optimal ripeness. In the winery, a traditional fermentation with maceration takes place in open containers, a method that encourages a delicate extraction of aromas. Afterwards, the wine matures through ageing in large wooden barrels and small barriques. This period of rest enriches the structure and imparts greater depth of flavour, while preserving the vibrancy of the fruit.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1967 in Caldaro, along the Wine Road, the Ritterhof winery combines natural winemaking with sustainability. Under the guidance of oenologist Hannes Bernard, this Alto Adige DOC is produced from mountain vineyards situated between 450 and 600 metres above sea level, where clay and porphyry soils give the wine its distinctive minerality. The deep respect for the environment imparts a structured elegance to the Pinot Nero 2024, which has recently been awarded by a renowned Italian guide.
