Description
What kind of wine it is
Renato Keber Collio Merlot Grici is a still red wine distinguished by its profound complexity and enveloping structure, an authentic expression of Merlot grapes. On the nose and palate, it offers fruity and sweet sensations, with clear notes of raspberry and wild berries. Its mature and elegant tannins blend into a smooth sip, ideal for accompanying dishes with intense flavours. Best served at a temperature between sixteen and eighteen degrees, it pairs perfectly with structured dishes such as red meats, fine game and lamb loin.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the Zegla vineyard, located on the hills of Collio, in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. In this environment, the Merlot grape variety has been present for over a century, finding ideal conditions for regular ripening and to express a strong territorial character. The rows are cultivated using a dense Guyot system, aimed at enhancing aromatic concentration. Harvesting is carried out exclusively by manual picking, taking place in the third decade of September, ensuring a rigorous selection of bunches at full ripeness.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with destemming and crushing of the grapes. Fermentation involves a prolonged maceration on the skins, essential for extracting the colour and polyphenolic components that give the wine its body. After gentle pressing, the wine matures for nineteen months in wooden barrels, an essential step to refine its flavour profile. The process concludes with further ageing in the bottle, which stabilises the aromatic balance before tasting.

The gently curving hillside called Zegla, close by the border with Slovenia, has long been home to Renato Keber and his family. Renato’s great grandfather, Franc, came from nearby Vipulzano to settle here in 1900, when this was still under Austrian rule.
Since then and for four generations, the Keber family has lived and produced its wine in Zegla, and even today, the older generations join the new ones in working in the vineyards. Read more
