Description
What kind of wine it is
Quintodecimo Irpinia Aglianico Terra d’Eclano is a still red wine, a true expression of Irpinia, made from Aglianico grapes. It stands out for its elegant, smooth and fruity character. On the nose, it reveals a seductive profile, characterised by notes of plum jam, violet and dried rose petals. On the palate, it finishes with a spicy, long and complex aftertaste, well integrated and supported by silky, very fine tannins. This wine pairs beautifully with structured first courses, pork and cheeses, offering its best if decanted for an hour.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in Mirabella Eclano, on soils composed of clay and tuff, at an altitude between 420 and 460 metres above sea level. Trained using the spur-pruned cordon method, with limited yields, the vines benefit from triple exposure to the south-east, south-west and north-west. This balanced pedoclimatic environment encourages an intense expression of the fruit. Quintodecimo, under the expert guidance of Luigi Moio, manages these historic Irpinian vineyards to enhance the potential of the grape variety and its native terroir with the utmost naturalness and precision.
How it is produced
The production process begins at the end of October with a meticulous manual selection of the bunches. This is followed by destemming and vinification that respects each individual plot. Fermentation and maceration take place in steel vats for a period of twenty-one to thirty days at a controlled temperature. The subsequent malolactic fermentation occurs in oak barrels, initiating an eighteen-month maturation in wood before blending into the final blend. The process concludes with a period of bottle ageing, defining the harmony of a persistent and rigorous red.
History and Curiosities
Terra d’Eclano 2022 embodies the prestigious vision of oenologist Luigi Moio, who leads the Quintodecimo winery to enhance the pure essence of Aglianico in Irpinia DOC. Produced in Mirabella Eclano on clay and tuff soils, this wine is made from grapes hand-picked in the third decade of October. Its refined identity develops through meticulous vinification and 18 months of ageing in barriques, followed by six months in the bottle, resulting in a seductive and complex sip, enriched by extremely fine and silky tannins.
