Description
What kind of wine it is
Primofiore is a still red wine from Veneto crafted by Giuseppe Quintarelli, created from a harmonious blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Corvina and Corvinone. This red, with its intense ruby colour, offers a clear aromatic profile, characterised by vibrant floral notes of violet intertwined with hints of black cherry and small red fruits. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with a smooth, fresh and savoury drinkability. The taste is enhanced by delicious fruity returns and a sweet spiciness, finely balanced by herbaceous and earthy accents that provide a satisfying finish.
Where it comes from
The grapes originate from the renowned Valpolicella area, specifically on the hills of Negrar in the Verona region. The vineyards stretch across the Cà Paletta hill at an altitude of around three hundred and fifty metres, a position that ensures an ideal climate for gradual ripening. The vine roots delve into a basaltic limestone soil, a fundamental matrix that gives the wine its pronounced savouriness and aromatic definition. Cultivation combines the Veronese Pergola training system with the Guyot method, naturally supporting the vocation of the hilly terroir.
How it is produced
Production begins in mid-September, the optimal time for the harvest. After careful crushing and fermentation aimed at extracting colour and aromas without weighing down the sip, the wine continues its maturation in the cellar. Ageing takes place over a period of ten to twelve months in Slavonian oak barrels. This slow rest in wood allows the wine's structure to stabilise, enriching the aromatic profile with delicate spicy nuances while perfectly preserving the expressiveness of the red fruit.
History and Curiosities
Primofiore 2023 is born among the prestigious hills of Valpolicella, on the Cerè di Negrar estate on Mount Ca’ Paletta. The Giuseppe Quintarelli winery, founded in 1900, preserves an invaluable heritage passed down from generation to generation. The grapes, harvested from mid-September from vineyards cultivated using the Pergola Veronese and Guyot methods, mature for 10-12 months in Slavonian oak barrels. This meticulous artisanal ageing process gives rise to an extraordinary red wine, awarded 93 points by Vinous, capable of enhancing the essence of Negrar’s calcareous basaltic terroir.
