Description
What kind of wine it is
Querciabella's Chianti Classico is an organic and biodynamic red wine from Tuscany, with controlled and guaranteed designation of origin, a vibrant expression of Sangiovese. Aged in oak barrels, it boasts a rich and multifaceted aromatic profile, characterised by notes of cherry, violet, undergrowth and walnut husk, enriched with hints of leather and sweet spices. On the palate, it is warm and enveloping, supported by a brilliant acidity and fine, velvety tannins. The long and persistent finish makes it perfect to pair with game, roasts and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
The vineyards are located in the heart of Chianti Classico, spread across the renowned hills of Greve in Chianti, Lamole and Radda in Chianti. The vines grow at altitudes between 350 and 550 metres, benefiting from optimal south and south-west exposure that ensures even ripening of the grapes. The well-drained soils, characterised by galestro, clay, sand and marl schist, give the wine a pronounced territorial identity, endowing it with an elegant style and a tannic structure of rare finesse.
How it is produced
Following a meticulous manual harvest, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks, with maceration on the skins for about twelve days. To enhance the characteristics of each individual plot, Querciabella carries out separate micro-vinifications before composing the final blend. Ageing continues for over a year in French oak barrels, a fundamental step to harmonise the structure, enhance the fruit's juiciness and define a harmonious and well-defined profile.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1974 in Greve in Chianti, Querciabella boasts the largest area of biodynamic vineyards in Italy. Nestled within dense woods, the rows of vines grow sheltered from any contamination, protected by a precious natural ecosystem. In this exceptional oasis, oenologist Manfred Ing has created a Chianti Classico DOCG 2022 that has achieved 92 points from Decanter and 91 from Vinous. An elegant richness of flavour that pays homage to the historic reputation of a full-bodied red, capable of being fully appreciated from the first to the last sip.
