Description

Style of wine

Collio Chardonnay Gmajne by Primosic is a structured and complex white wine produced in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Made entirely from Chardonnay grapes, this wine falls under the Collio DOC appellation, distinguishing itself through its rich personality and potential for evolution. It presents an intense aromatic profile, featuring fresh notes of quince, elderflower and anise, accompanied by nuances of vanilla and exotic fruit. On the palate, it is warm, broad and full-bodied, with a perfect balance between fruity smoothness, spicy touches and a vibrant mineral vein. Its complexity makes it an elegant white with a long finish, ideal for evolving over time thanks to its ageing in wood.

Where it comes from

This Chardonnay is born in the prestigious Gmajne Vineyard, located in Oslavia, in the heart of the Collio Goriziano sub-zone, in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The distinctive element of this land is the soil composed of ponca, a precious alternation of marl and sandstone that deeply shapes the character of the wine. This unique geological composition ensures excellent drainage and lends the grapes a marked mineral and savoury drive, essential for balancing the natural power of the variety. The mild and well-ventilated climate of the area favours gradual and complete ripening, preserving acidity and enriching the aromatic profile. The Gmajne Vineyard hosts historic vines, whose deep roots allow for the best expression of the authenticity of this specific, dedicated terroir.

How it is produced

The production of this white wine involves a rigorous selection in the vineyard, with the grapes harvested by hand to preserve their integrity. After de-stemming, the bunches undergo gentle pressing using a pneumatic press. The resulting free-run must is separated and transferred directly into French oak barrels (barriques), where both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place. This step confers smoothness and aromatic complexity. Subsequently, the wine matures in contact with the wood before being bottled without any sterile filtration, ensuring the maximum expression of its natural characteristics. The process concludes with a further, long refinement in the bottle for several months, allowing the wine to reach perfect harmony before being released onto the market.

Primosic's attitude is to always push the quality limits necessary to carry out a project based on zones to ascertain the characteristics of the terroir and to find the perfect match for the vines. A philosophy of life in which Primosic strives to determine its expression of wine with the characteristic balance between vine and terroir.

Today Sylvester Primosic is supported by his two sons, Boris as CFO and cellar coordinator, while Marko, managing director, oversees the export and marketing aspects.
