Description
What kind of wine it is
Poggio Scalette's Chianti Classico is a Tuscan red that elegantly expresses the Sangiovese from Lamole. Fermented and matured in concrete, this wine offers a fresh and dynamic profile on the palate. Its agile and linear structure provides a balanced sip that enhances the fruity component. Its harmony and excellent drinkability make it ideal for flavourful meat dishes, pork-based recipes and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in the Ruffoli terroir, in Greve in Chianti, Tuscany. The vineyards stretch across hillside terraces at 450 metres above sea level, with a west-south-west exposure that ensures consistent ripening. The sandy and silty soils, rich in stones, give the wine a dry and fresh profile. Here, vines over twenty years old are trained using Guyot and spurred cordon methods, reflecting the authenticity of the area.
How it is produced
Production begins in October with the harvest, followed by alcoholic fermentation and malolactic fermentation in lined concrete vats. This choice preserves the clarity of the aromatic profile. The wine undergoes 10 months of maturation in the same containers, maintaining the integrity of the fruit. After the cellar period ends in July, it rests for a further three months to achieve complete and harmonious expressive clarity.
