Description

What kind of wine it is

Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a certified organic red wine of great structure, a pure expression of the Sangiovese Grosso grape. Its aromatic profile weaves together red fruits, blood orange and sweet spices in a complex and enveloping bouquet. On the palate, it stands out for its silky tannic texture and the vibrant freshness typical of the grape variety. Each sip offers a savoury finish, enriched by mineral, ferrous and tobacco nuances, culminating in a long, balsamic persistence. An extraordinary wine, capable of evolving beautifully over many years.

Where it comes from

This Brunello di Montalcino Riserva originates in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, at the foot of Monte Amiata. The Sangiovese Grosso vineyards benefit from perfect southern exposure, situated at an altitude between three hundred and four hundred and fifty metres. The roots delve into rocky, poor soils of sedimentary origin, which impart the wine with its vibrant mineral energy. The Poggio di Sotto estate practices organic and sustainable agriculture, working in harmony with the ecosystem to ensure a consistent and balanced ripening of the grapes.

How it is produced

After manual harvesting, the must undergoes spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts in wooden vats. The long ageing process takes place in large Slavonian oak barrels, where the wine develops and defines its complex and structured character. To preserve the integrity of the fruit, bottling is carried out without any filtration. The result is a deep and harmonious red, perfect for accompanying red meats, truffle-based dishes and mature cheeses.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1989 to enhance the Sangiovese Grosso in the ideal microclimate of Castelnuovo dell’Abate, the Poggio di Sotto estate creates true masterpieces in total harmony with nature. This exceptional 2019 Riserva ferments spontaneously in wood before ageing for 42 months in Slavonian oak. Bottled without filtration to preserve its organic essence, this sublime meditation wine has enchanted critics, earning an impressive 99 points from Robert Parker. An oenological gem of extraordinary longevity, produced in a limited edition of only 45,000 fine bottles.
