Description
What kind of wine it is
Poggioraso by Poggio Argentiera is a still red wine produced in Tuscany that precisely expresses the character of its territory. Made from Cabernet Franc grapes, it presents a structured and full style, defined by remarkable intensity and an elegant profile. The long and persistent flavour profile harmoniously pairs with dishes of bold flavours, ideally accompanying pork-based dishes, game and mature cheeses. This label enhances the characteristics of the grape variety in Maremma, maintaining a clear focus on the purity of the fruit and substance.
Where it comes from
The roots of this wine lie in the southern Maremma, specifically between the areas of Baccinello and Alberese, in the province of Grosseto. The vineyards, situated at around three hundred metres above sea level, grow on soils rich in alluvial pebbles with a clear predominance of calcareous clays, fundamental elements for giving structure and definition to the glass. The Poggio Argentiera winery carefully tends these plots to transfer the authentic essence of the Maremma terroir into the glass, creating a sip capable of balancing power and finesse.
How it is produced
Production begins with a rigorous manual harvest, followed by vinification involving maceration on the skins for about two weeks. To manage extraction and preserve aromatic integrity, Poggio Argentiera carries out both fermentation and subsequent maturation in temperature-controlled steel tanks. The absence of ageing in barrels ensures a clear and faithful imprint of the Cabernet Franc, enhancing its natural expressiveness. In the vineyard, the use of the spur-pruned cordon training system and high planting density guarantee excellent aromatic concentration and great consistency in quality.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1997 with the acquisition of the Adua estate, Poggio Argentiera expanded its vineyards to Baccinello and Alberese to express the authentic terroir of the Maremma. This passion finds its highest expression in Poggioraso, a pure Cabernet Franc capable of enhancing the strength of the Tuscan land. The 2021 vintage stood out on the international stage, achieving prestigious scores: 95/100 from James Suckling and 92/100 from Robert Parker. A memorable red, also celebrated by the Veronelli and FIS guides for its unmistakable excellence.

The 15 acres (six hectares) of vineyards began to produce grapes for a Morellino di Scansano and the new cellar was built. In 2001 the property was enlarged with the acquisition of another farm, located in Baccinello, a hillside zone in the township of Scansano. New vineyards were added to the older but prestigious existing ones, and today the winery owns over 50 acres (21 hectares) of vineyards all in the Morellino di Scansano appellation. Read more
