Description
What kind of wine it is
Planeta Frappato is an organic red wine produced in Sicily that expresses the authentic character of Vittoria. In the glass, it displays a ruby red colour with violet highlights, hinting at a delicate, floral aromatic profile. The bouquet reveals notes of ripe strawberry, rose and candied violet, enriched by an elegant smoky tone. On the palate, it is fresh, medium-bodied and well-balanced, offering a sip characterised by abundant red fruit and subtle balsamic nuances. Its slender and harmonious structure makes it ideal to pair with a gourmet pizza, tomato-based pasta dishes and fish tartare, enhancing flavours with great precision.
Where it comes from
The Frappato grapes grow in the territory of Acate, in south-eastern Sicily. The vineyards are located about seventy metres above sea level, in a coastal area where the maritime influence helps to define the aromatic freshness of the fruit. The soil is distinguished by loose red sands, moderately deep and free from stones. At about ninety centimetres deep, there is a valuable tuffaceous layer, essential for maintaining the correct water balance of the plant. The agricultural management follows strict organic and sustainable principles, with vines trained using the spur-pruned cordon method to ensure a balanced and high-quality yield.
How it is produced
After harvesting at the end of September, the grapes are destemmed and crushed to begin vinification. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, accompanied by a seven-day skin maceration to extract colour and aromatic components. The wine is then separated from the pomace through a very gentle pressing using a vertical basket press. Malolactic fermentation also takes place in steel vats, where the wine continues its ageing in steel until bottling, a choice that preserves the fresh and fragrant identity of Frappato.
