Description
What kind of wine it is
La Segreta Rosso is an organic still red wine produced by Planeta, an authentic expression of Sicily. This harmonious blend of Nero d’Avola, Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc offers a medium-bodied, dry and fresh sip. With its vivid ruby red colour, it releases aromas of currant and mulberry with a subtle spicy and mentholated finish. On the palate, ripe fruits are balanced with herbal notes and well-polished tannins, making it perfect to accompany Mediterranean first courses, caponata and seared fish dishes.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown on estates located between Menfi, Sambuca di Sicilia and Noto, at altitudes ranging from 35 to 430 metres. The vineyards thrive on diverse soils, alternating between clay and calcareous marl rich in stones and silt. This marked territorial richness ensures optimal development of the vines under organic management. The complex geological and altitudinal variety allows the grapes to develop a clear freshness and a defined aromatic profile, in full respect of agricultural sustainability.
How it is produced
After harvesting, the bunches are gently destemmed and crushed. Each variety undergoes temperature-controlled fermentation separately in stainless steel tanks for about seven to fourteen days. During this phase, short pump-overs are carried out to extract colour and aromas while respecting the integrity of the fruit. This is followed by malolactic fermentation, completed by maturation in steel which preserves the wine’s immediate fragrance.
History and Curiosities
Taking its name from the Ulmo woodland, this organic red wine embodies the legacy of the Planeta family, who have been active in Sicily for seventeen generations.
