Description

What kind of wine it is

Pira Barolo Serralunga by Pira Luigi is a still red wine that embodies the essence of Piedmontese Nebbiolo. Originating from the prestigious Barolo area, it displays a garnet colour enriched with orange hues. On the nose, freshness emerges alongside distinct notes of leather, hay, earth and spices. On the palate, it offers a pleasant softness, achieving a harmonious taste balance between lively acidity and a well-defined tannic structure. The finish is long and persistent, confirming a solid and elegant style.

Where it comes from

This wine is produced in Serralunga d’Alba, an area of Piedmont with a deep winemaking tradition. Pira Luigi manages the estate with great care, enhancing vineyards that stretch over thirteen hectares. The soil, characterised by a calcareous-clay composition, gives the wine a particular tension and a well-defined tannic structure. The production faithfully reflects the local vineyard landscape, bringing the authenticity of a unique territory to the glass.

How it is produced

Vinification involves the use of horizontal fermenters at controlled temperature for a period between twelve and fifteen days. Afterwards, the wine rests for twenty-four months of ageing in wooden barrels, allowing for a gradual and complex maturation of its structure. At the table, it proves an ideal companion for structured first courses and pork-based dishes. Its texture enhances the intense flavour of game and pairs excellently with mature cheeses.

History and Curiosities

Born in Serralunga d’Alba, in the historic winery founded in 1950 by Luigi Pira, this wine encapsulates the authentic essence of Nebbiolo grown on fertile calcareous-clay soils. The expert vision of oenologist Gianpaolo Pira guides a meticulous process, culminating in a 24-month maturation in large wooden barrels. This artisanal dedication enhances the profound structure and timeless class of this Barolo DOCG, transforming every tasting into a celebration of the highest Piedmontese tradition.

Our family has had a bond with the hills of Serralunga d'Alba since the end of the 19th century. Starting in the 1950s, Luigi Pira, together with his wife Rosa, transformed the estate into a wine-growing business, aiming to enhance the valuable product of Serralunga d'Alba. Our wines are the result of a journey through generations - from Luigi's grandparents to his granddaughters - a journey of traditions and devotion, of growth and an eye to the future. A journey that has taken place entirely in the generous grounds of Serralunga d'Alba.

The first step taken by Luigi marked a significant imprint for the company and, in the early 1990s, with the arrival of his sons Gianpaolo, Romolo and Claudio, the family began bottling their own wines, seeking the highest quality.
