Description

What kind of wine it is

Pira Barolo Margheria is a red wine that faithfully represents the renowned Barolo denomination. Made from Nebbiolo grapes, it displays a garnet red colour and develops an intense aromatic profile, featuring notes of fruit and flowers enriched by hints of leather and fresh hay. On the palate, it shows a structured body, excellently supported by the pleasant tannins characteristic of the grape variety. Its overall balance makes it the ideal companion for rich pasta dishes, red meats, pork-based preparations, game, and mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in Piedmont, on the hills of Serralunga d’Alba, a region with a historic connection to the Luigi Pira winery dating back to the late nineteenth century. The vines benefit from an ideal southern exposure at an altitude of three hundred and forty metres. The roots delve into clay-limestone soils, a key factor in giving the structure a pronounced and deep tannic texture. The meticulous management of the estate’s vineyards, with limited yields, ensures the perfect integrity of every single bunch.

How it is produced

Work in the winery begins with careful vinification carried out in horizontal fermenters. This is followed by temperature-controlled fermentation for a period of twelve to fifteen days, a crucial timeframe to allow for the correct extraction of the phenolic profile. The process is completed with a long twenty-four month maturation in wooden barrels. This maturation phase, overseen by oenologist Gianpaolo Pira, defines the rigorous character and profound identity of this wine.

History and Curiosities

The Barolo Margheria by Pira Luigi has its roots in the prestigious hills of Serralunga d’Alba, a region to which the family has been intimately connected since the late nineteenth century. The estate, founded in 1950, preserves a passion handed down through generations and has been bottling its own wines since the early 1990s. Under the careful guidance of oenologist Gianpaolo Pira, the estate’s 13 hectares now produce a Barolo DOCG that expresses the authentic historical identity of Piedmont in a production of around 65,000 exclusive bottles per year.

Our family has had a bond with the hills of Serralunga d'Alba since the end of the 19th century. Starting in the 1950s, Luigi Pira, together with his wife Rosa, transformed the estate into a wine-growing business, aiming to enhance the valuable product of Serralunga d'Alba. Our wines are the result of a journey through generations - from Luigi's grandparents to his granddaughters - a journey of traditions and devotion, of growth and an eye to the future. A journey that has taken place entirely in the generous grounds of Serralunga d'Alba.

The first step taken by Luigi marked a significant imprint for the company and, in the early 1990s, with the arrival of his sons Gianpaolo, Romolo and Claudio, the family began bottling their own wines, seeking the highest quality.
