Description
What kind of wine it is
Pian delle Vigne Rosso di Montalcino is a still red wine produced by Antinori, conceived as a vibrant and ready-to-drink interpretation of Sangiovese. As an expression of Rosso di Montalcino, it stands out for its fresh and mineral profile. In the glass, it displays a bright ruby red colour. On the nose, it reveals notes of ripe red fruit, plum and raspberry, intertwined with floral hints and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it shows silky tannins and a medium body, finishing with a long and savoury finish that enhances its balance.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the Pian delle Vigne Estate, south of Montalcino, overlooking the Val d’Orcia. The vines grow between 130 and 150 metres above sea level, with a constant south-eastern exposure. The clay and limestone soils, rich in stones, impart a pronounced mineral character and excellent savouriness. The mild and temperate climate of the area favours optimal ripening of the grapes, ensuring an ideal balance between overall structure and pleasant freshness.
How it is produced
Harvesting takes place in mid-September. After destemming and gentle pressing, the must ferments in stainless steel tanks. The maceration on the skins lasts for eight to ten days, encouraging a measured extraction of colour and fine tannins. Once malolactic fermentation is complete, the wine is transferred to large oak casks where it matures for about twelve months. This maturation in wood harmonises the structural components and preserves the fragrance of the Sangiovese.
History and Curiosities
Born with the 2012 vintage from the expertise of the Antinori family, this captivating Rosso di Montalcino enriches the prestigious range of the winery, standing alongside the renowned Brunello and Riserva. Acquired in 1995, the estate is located south of Montalcino, overlooking the enchanting Val d’Orcia, and takes its name from a historic nineteenth-century railway station.
