Description
What kind of wine it is
Pian delle Vigne Vignaferrovia Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a Tuscan red that showcases Sangiovese grapes. It stands out for its deep aromatic profile, featuring notes of ripe red fruits, balsamic nuances, tobacco, leather, and delicate hints of chocolate. On the palate, it offers a rich body and a silky texture, supported by dense tannins well balanced by pronounced freshness. The prolonged finish reveals a distinct mineral savouriness, making it ideal for pairing with game dishes, pork, and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
The wine originates from the Pian delle Vigne estate, south of Montalcino, overlooking the splendid Val d’Orcia. The vineyard takes its name from the old nineteenth-century railway station located right next to the rows of vines. The plants thrive at an altitude between 130 and 200 metres, benefiting from excellent south-west exposure. The soils, mainly clay and limestone, contain a significant amount of stones that aid water drainage. These particular soil and climate conditions impart a persistent territorial character to the wine.
How it is produced
Production begins with a meticulous selection of the bunches in two stages, between July and September, to harvest perfectly intact fruit. After destemming and gentle pressing, the must undergoes maceration on the skins for about three weeks, supported by pumping over and délestage. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. The wine then undergoes a lengthy maturation in wood, starting in small barrels before continuing its ageing in large casks. The final rest in bottle completes the structure of this authentic expression of Brunello di Montalcino.
