Description
What kind of wine it is
Philipponnat Royale Réserve Non Dosé is a Champagne crafted according to the Traditional Method in the Brut Nature style. This wine is born from a harmonious blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier, vinified to express the utmost aromatic purity without the addition of sugars. In the glass, it displays a fine and persistent mousse, which precedes an aromatic profile marked by white flowers, lime blossom, hawthorn and pronounced citrus notes. On the palate, it is dry, taut and endowed with a distinct minerality, supported by lively acidity. The finish is long, clear and saline, enriched by consistent hints of warm bread and fresh apple.
Where it comes from
This wine comes to life in the Champagne region, with roots in the territories of Aÿ and Mareuil-sur-Ay, the historic base of the Philipponnat brand since 1522. The character of Philipponnat Royale Réserve Non Dosé is deeply linked to a chalky terroir, typical of the slopes of the Montagne de Reims. This distinctive terroir imparts a clear savoury imprint to the wine, defining its dry and direct style. The complete absence of dosage allows the vocation of the original soils to shine through, offering a crisp and energetic sip, capable of delivering an authentic and rigorous territorial expression.
How it is produced
Production involves exclusively first-press grapes, to which a carefully selected portion of reserve wines is added to complete the blend. These reserve wines are managed using the solera system and aged in oak barrels, a technique designed to give the base wine remarkable depth of flavour. During vinification, a partial malolactic fermentation takes place, aimed at avoiding oxidation and maintaining high acidic tension. Subsequently, the wine undergoes a lengthy maturation on the lees in the maison's cellars for around three years. The result is a balanced and fresh taste.

In 1696, Apvril’s descendants, who were often ‘Royal Mayors’ of Ay, registered the family coat of arms in the Armorial de France. Today, this same coat of arms adorns all the House’s bottles. The labels of Philipponnat, vineyard owners and wine merchants, were among the first to bear the signature of sparkling Champagnes as early as the mid-19th century. Read more
