Description

What kind of wine it is

Boggina C Riserva is an organic red wine from Petrolo, a pure expression of Sangiovese in the Val d’Arno di Sopra area. On the nose, it reveals aromas of cherry and rose, combined with hints of orange peel. The palate displays a medium body, where fresh fruit is intertwined with an elegant tannic structure. Excellent acidity ensures freshness and a remarkable capacity for ageing. Ideal alongside red meats, game and cheeses, it requires about an hour of decanting to fully express its potential.

Where it comes from

This red originates from the historic Boggina vineyard, a precious plot of the Tuscan Petrolo estate. The vines, cultivated according to the strict principles of organic farming, derive from a careful massal selection of the original clones planted in the early 1950s. The advanced age of the vineyard and the favourable microclimate impart a pronounced aromatic precision to the glass. The agronomic management, respectful of the terroir, results in a limited production entirely bottled at source, designed to enhance the authentic connection with the land.

How it is produced

The grapes are hand-harvested in the second half of September, followed by a rigorous selection of the berries. Spontaneous fermentation, driven by indigenous yeasts, takes place in cement vats with gentle pump-overs and long macerations. Maturation continues for sixteen to eighteen months in French oak barrels and tonneaux. This slow ageing consolidates the structure and elevates the harmony of the sip. The absence of final filtration preserves the material richness and natural expressiveness, resulting in an intact and balanced profile.

History and Curiosities

The result of Gastone Bazzocchi's vision, Boggina C Riserva embodies the excellence of Petrolo. This pure Sangiovese originates from vines planted in the early 1950s, preserving the massal selection of the original clones. Produced in only five thousand bottles a year, it is a prestigious certified organic wine that combines ancient Tuscan tradition with great production rigour. Awarded 94 points by international critics, this masterpiece from Val d’Arno di Sopra offers an authentic emotion, destined to evolve magnificently over time.

Wine production in oil has very ancient origins, as evidenced by the house and the basement are part of the ancient medieval fiefdom Galatrona, of which there is still a tower soaring over the hills planted with vines, hence the name of the wine of the same name. The company is located in the Chianti area already demarcated as an area of great value wine from the Grand Duke of Tuscany in 1716 and known as the Val d'Arno di Sopra. Oil was purchased by Bazzocchi family in the '40s, and the second half of the '80s, the current owner, Bazzocchi Sanjust Lucia, and his son Luke have taken a turn Sanjust production based solely on criteria of research of extreme quality.
