Description

What kind of wine it is

Petra Potenti Cabernet Sauvignon is a still red wine from Tuscany made from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. It stands out for its deep ruby red colour and a profile of great structure. On the nose, it impresses with its density, offering clear notes of blackberry jam, blueberry and black cherry. On the palate, it is dominated by a powerful texture, supported by abundant and rounded tannins. Herbaceous and balsamic nuances blend harmoniously with toasted hints and touches of coffee, finishing with a persistent and spicy aftertaste.

Where it comes from

The grapes grow in the Potenti vineyard in Riotorto, in an area closely linked to the Bolgheri region. The Cabernet Sauvignon vines sink their roots into clay-sandy soils with a slight presence of limestone, resting on a rocky base. The favourable slope of the land and Guyot training ensure balanced and consistent ripening of the bunches. This specific pedoclimatic context gives the wine its typical vigorous character, resulting in a concentrated sip that is true to the identity of its origin.

How it is produced

Production aims to enhance the natural complexity of Cabernet Sauvignon. After vinification, the wine rests in barrels for at least eighteen months, a crucial step to soften the tannic texture and enrich the bouquet with clear notes of spices and coffee. A subsequent refinement in glass helps integrate the dark fruit notes with the balsamic nuances, consolidating the overall balance. The glass is distinguished by a full-bodied character and a long, satisfying sip.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1997, the Petra winery showcases the excellence of the Tuscan terroir through this robust single-varietal Cabernet Sauvignon. Carefully cultivated on the clay-sandy soils of the Potenti vineyard in Riotorto, the grapes produce a Toscana IGT that masterfully combines power and elegance. Under the guidance of oenologist Giuseppe Caviola, the wine matures in barriques for 18 months and completes its evolution in the bottle. This ageing process bestows the wine with lasting appeal and an extraordinary longevity of 10-15 years.

Petra, like "pietra" (stone) in Latin. Like the solidity of work, which both Francesca and Vittorio Moretti (father and daughter) have based their project upon. Like the historic fragments found out in these lands, giving evidence of a far away past , leading from the Old Greek civilization to Etruria (ancient name for Tuscany) and from there to France. An ambitious project that claims to interpret the territory, to grasp the characteristics that make it unique, making it an exceptional wine-growing area. To live up to this, Vittorio Moretti entrusted the agronomic investigation to Prof. Attilio Scienza, the greatest expert in zoning, while the structure was designed by Mario Botta, who gave the winery the status of a true architecture of work and hospitality.
