Description

What kind of wine is it

Paul Bara's Champagne Grand Cru Brut Réserve is a dry, structured sparkling wine, created from a meticulous blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, vinified according to the strict Traditional Method. In the glass, it displays a pale yellow hue with golden highlights, crossed by a fine and persistent perlage. The bouquet opens with aromas of ripe fruit, particularly mirabelle plum, accompanied by honey, bergamot and orange zest. On the palate, it combines freshness and body, revealing flavours of yellow peach and subtle peppery notes, making it ideal to pair with scallop dishes, lean fish and cheeses.

Where does it come from

This wine originates in France, in the village of Bouzy, located on the Montagne de Reims, within the Champagne region. The area, entirely classified as Grand Cru, guarantees grapes of excellent quality. The Paul Bara estate cultivates its own vineyards in this renowned area, enhancing the deepest expression of the terroir. The blend reflects the structural strength of the local grapes, giving the sip a precise identity, a pronounced expressive richness and remarkable longevity. Every taste conveys the authentic character of the place.

How is it produced

The process begins with gentle pressing of the grapes and subsequent fermentation of the musts. The procedure continues with careful blending of the base wines, followed by the slow secondary fermentation that characterises the Traditional Method. During the prolonged ageing on the lees, the wine gains depth of flavour, integrating fruity notes with complex nuances of candied fruit and spices. The precise dosage balances the softness, enhancing freshness and vigour. This meticulous technical process ensures a focused aromatic profile and a deep, elegant drink.

From this winery
  • Start up year: 1860
The Bara property was built in 1860. In the beginning, it was a farm with stables, a cow shed, a sheep pen and a cellar; however, in 1965, the barn was transformed into a press room and a winery. Paul Bara, the father of today's owner Chantale, was the first of the dynasty to sell champagne under the brand of the same name in the 1950s. Chantale recalls how this man of character and conviction would often say: ‘We must keep hold of the fields to feed us’. He also wrote a very interesting book retracing the story of his 'beloved' village of Bouzy, its people and their wines and culture.

In 1975, the Bara champagne house innovatively became one of the first to export its champagnes to the United States. Today, the brand has a long-standing tradition of transatlantic sales and continues to work with the same US importer as back in the day. Nowadays Paul Bara champagnes are sold on all continents of the world. In 1980, Chantale began assisting her father and soon after, in 1986, began co-running the business. The 6th generation, she gets on with excellency by being a partner and also President during 4 years of the Club Trésors de Champagne and by intiating in 2013 a major programme of renovation of the winery to enhance its winemaking capacity and precision.
