Description
What kind of wine it is
La Montesa by Palacios Remondo is an organic red wine that faithfully expresses the authenticity of Rioja. This harmonious blend is made from Garnacha grapes, complemented by varieties such as Tempranillo, Carignan and Graciano. In the glass, it displays a ruby red colour with delicate garnet highlights, while on the nose it reveals an enveloping bouquet of ripe strawberries, fresh plums, orange zest and pink pepper. On the palate, it is velvety and vibrant, supported by well-polished tannins and a pronounced freshness. The finish is long and pleasantly enriched by nuances of chocolate-covered cherries and white pepper.
Where it comes from
The vineyards, cultivated using organic farming methods, are located in the municipality of Alfaro, nestled on the slopes of Mount Yerga at around 550 metres above sea level. The Mediterranean-continental climate encourages marked temperature variations, creating optimal conditions for the aromatic ripening of the grapes. The terroir is characterised by a fascinating stony-limestone subsoil, composed of clay, coarse gravel and volcanic rocks. The presence of a petrocalcic horizon gives the wine a natural elegance and a distinctive mineral character that enhances its freshness and longevity.
How it is produced
Fermentation in steel vats occurs spontaneously thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts, followed by a thirty-five day maceration to extract colour and complexity. With full respect for the raw material, the wine is clarified using fresh egg whites and kept unfiltered. Maturation involves twelve months in French and American oak barrels, skilfully alternated between new and used. An appropriate final ageing gives the wine perfect balance on the palate and a pleasantly silky persistence.
