Description
What kind of wine it is
Orto di Venezia is a still, aromatic white wine that comes to life in the Venetian lagoon. It is made from Malvasia Bianca grapes, vinified without ageing in barrels to preserve the integrity of its aromatic profile. In the glass, it stands out for its straw yellow colour with greenish highlights. On the nose, it releases notes of tropical fruit, orange blossom and white pepper. On the palate, it is enveloping and persistent, characterised by a vibrant mineral sensation and refreshing quality. It pairs beautifully with fish dishes, seafood, asparagus and the typical castraure artichokes.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the island of Sant’Erasmo, where sea currents meet the calm waters of the lagoon. Here, the vineyard is caressed by salty breezes and cool winds from the mountains. To protect the environment, the Orto di Venezia winery uses a restored ancient drainage system, which channels rainwater between the rows to drain it away through hydraulic sluices. The uniqueness of this area is expressed in a sip with a pronounced salty character, clearly evoking Venice’s authentic agricultural vocation.
How it is produced
The management of the vineyards involves the use of ungrafted vines on soils tended without ploughing or chemical fertilisers. The ecosystem’s balance is maintained by subsequently sowing barley, oats and radish. The focus on artisanal methods continues in the winery, where the process is aimed at enhancing the fresh mineral purity of the grapes. The absence of invasive technical interventions results in a white wine with an authentic, straightforward flavour, fully respectful of its varietal identity.

The ancestral drainage system on the island has been renovated. Rainwater collects in canals that cross the vineyard and the water is evacuated by opening sluice gates at low tide. Before planting the first vines, the ground was prepared only with plants (barley, radish).
the vines were planted by direct seeding without any ploughing following the principles of Claude Bourguignon and of course, never any weedkiller. An assembly of antique Italian grape varieties with a dominance of the Istrien Malvoisie in order to revive the flavour of wines in the past, before the philoxera epidemic, the vines were not grafted onto roots imported from America but planted directly. This is one of the reasons for ORTO's exceptional quality. Read more
