Description
What kind of wine it is
Olivier Leflaive's Bourgogne Cuvée Margot highlights the finesse of Pinot Noir. This wine, an expression of the Burgundy region, displays a deep ruby colour. On the nose, it offers aromas of cherry, raspberry and strawberry, interwoven with earthy nuances and a delicate toasted undertone. On the palate, it reveals a medium-bodied structure, fresh and juicy, enriched by hints of liquorice. Well-integrated tannins accompany the soft texture towards a persistent finish, making it ideal to pair with white meats and traditional recipes.
Where it comes from
This wine is crafted from a carefully selected blend of plots located in the Côte de Beaune, between the villages of Santenay and Pernand-Vergelesses. The vines sink their roots into limestone and clay soils rich in silt components, ideal for enhancing the freshness of the fruit. Olivier Leflaive's approach precisely interprets the territorial vocation of these historic vineyards. This attention is reflected in the harmonious profile of the sip, ensuring a balanced expression that highlights a pronounced olfactory purity.
How it is produced
Vinification is completed with careful maturation in oak barrels for around sixteen months. The use of a small proportion of new wood preserves the fruity identity, enriching it with elegant spicy nuances. This period of rest encourages the development of fresh, well-integrated tannins, ensuring a pleasant persistence on the palate. The result is a red wine with a clean and balanced texture, able to combine immediate expressive appeal with excellent potential for ageing over time.

Just after the First World War, Olivier’s grandfather, Joseph Leflaive was faced with the failure of his steel factory in Saint-Etienne.
His investments in Burgundy were all he had left and he decided to enlarge his wine estate. It became a family-run operation covering some 35 hectares. His son, Joseph Régis, was in insurance and along with his brother Vincent, decided to take over the reins in 1953.
The estate soon began producing top-flight wines, mainly due to the arrival of air conditioning in Puligny in the 1970s. This was a major step for winemakers in this village which sits two meters above the water table and as such, had no underground cellars. Read more
