Description

What type of wine it is

Noelia Ricci Sangiovese Godenza is an organic red wine that embodies the character of the Romagna Sangiovese Predappio area. Produced exclusively from Sangiovese grapes, it has a transparent ruby colour and an olfactory profile where floral notes, forest fruits and light toasted hints intertwine. On the palate, it is dry, savoury and supported by elegant tannins, with a balsamic finish that veers towards black pepper. The use of indigenous yeasts and the absence of filtration allow the aromatic purity of the fruit to be kept intact.

Where it comes from

The grapes are grown in the Godenza Vineyard, located in San Cristoforo di Predappio, where the vineyards grow at altitudes between 300 and 340 metres. This microclimate is ideal for preserving freshness and aromatic precision. The soil is composed of ochre clays and calcareous marls, with a significant component of sandstone. This particular geology is fundamental to defining the wine's organoleptic profile, giving it a characteristic savouriness that harmoniously balances its structure.

How it is produced

The harvest takes place during the last week of September. In the cellar, the process begins with spontaneous fermentation and a maceration on the skins for forty-five days in temperature-controlled steel vats. After malolactic fermentation, the wine ages for twelve months in unrefined cement tanks, followed by at least ten months of resting in the bottle. The choice to avoid fining preserves the wine's textural structure, ensuring an authentic and sincere territorial expression.

History and interesting facts

The iconic monkey on the label is the symbol of Godenza, Noelia Ricci’s longest-lived wine, and embodies the desire to return to the purest traditions of Sangiovese di Predappio. It is an organic red deeply rooted in its territory, capable of faithfully conveying the nuances of the ridge from which it originates. The high concentration of sandstone sand in the soil of Vigna Godenza gives this fascinating wine a distinct and characteristic savouriness.

Pandolfa is located in Predappio, on the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines and covers 140 hectares, immersed in the heart of the Rabbi Valley.

30 of these are cultivated with vineyards and are located between 80 and 250 metres above sea level, on a typically Predappiese soil, which is the result of the decay of ancient sandstones and calcareous marls rich in mineral salts and sulphur.

Pandolfa is also a place of historical importance in the territory, where the valley is dominated by an 18th century villa, also known as "Villa degli spiriti" and "Casa dalle 100 finestre".

The name Pandolfa seems to derive directly from Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, also known as the "Wolf of Rimini", who would have stayed in these places for a long time before plundering the Castle of Fiumana in 1436.

From 1626 to 1941, the owners of the Estate were the Marquises Albicini.

In 1941 the property passed to Commendator Giuseppe Ricci, an entrepreneur from Forlì. In the years of the Second World War, the history of Pandolfa changed its mark. It was occupied by the Germans and then attacked by Polish troops, while many displaced people found refuge in its cellars. Once peace was restored, in the 50s, Giuseppe Ricci began the renovation of the Estate and also began to rethink agricultural production, he bought two adjacent farms and planted vines of Sangiovese, Trebbiano and Albana. Pandolfa is still owned by Ricci's granddaughter, Paola Piscopo, who has used all her enthusiasm to give the Estate back an important role in the territory.

Today it is her son, Marco Cirese - the fourth generation - who has taken over the ranks of this history, with the intention of making the winery a place of excellence, linking the family history with the territory, in a constant dialogue with the traditions of these places and the native grape varieties.
