Description
What kind of wine it is
Godenza Romagna Sangiovese Predappio by Noelia Ricci is an organic red wine that expresses the most authentic character of the Sangiovese grape. On the nose, it offers aromas of cherry, raspberry and violet, enhanced by subtle spices and delicate toasted notes. On the palate, it is dry with a medium-full body, supported by a lively acidity that perfectly balances the fleshiness of the red fruit. The elegant tannins lead to a persistent finish, enriched by balsamic nuances, hints of black pepper and a distinctive mineral savouriness. It pairs beautifully with dishes such as cappelletti in broth, stuffed pasta, cheeses and pork meats.
Where it comes from
This red originates from the cru of the Godenza vineyard, located in the San Cristoforo area of Predappio. The vineyards are situated over three hundred metres above sea level in the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines, cultivated according to organic farming principles. The soil consists of sandy sandstones, ochre clays and calcareous marls, rich in mineral elements that give the Sangiovese a unique freshness and a dry profile. The Predappio area, a prime centre for Romagna Sangiovese, is renowned for its ability to enhance the identity of individual vineyards through unmistakable territorial expressions.
How it is produced
The Sangiovese grapes are hand-picked and placed in small crates. Spontaneous fermentation takes place thanks to indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled steel tanks. This is followed by a prolonged maceration of about forty-five days, essential for a balanced extraction of structure, completed by malolactic fermentation. True to an artisanal philosophy, the wine undergoes neither fining nor filtration. Ageing involves twelve months in raw cement tanks and a further ten months in bottle, allowing the tannic structure and aromatic components to integrate harmoniously.
History and Curiosities
Born from the renowned San Cristoforo cru in Predappio, Godenza is the most long-lived wine produced by Noelia Ricci. This fine organic Sangiovese, grown on sandy sandstone soils and ochre clays, offers the glass an elegant mineral savouriness. The iconic label featuring a monkey symbolises a return to the most authentic local traditions, highlighting the unbreakable bond with the land. Awarded the prestigious 3 Bicchieri Gambero Rosso and 92 points from Vinous, this artisanal red guarantees an unforgettable tasting experience.

30 of these are cultivated with vineyards and are located between 80 and 250 metres above sea level, on a typically Predappiese soil, which is the result of the decay of ancient sandstones and calcareous marls rich in mineral salts and sulphur.
Pandolfa is also a place of historical importance in the territory, where the valley is dominated by an 18th century villa, also known as "Villa degli spiriti" and "Casa dalle 100 finestre".
The name Pandolfa seems to derive directly from Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, also known as the "Wolf of Rimini", who would have stayed in these places for a long time before plundering the Castle of Fiumana in 1436.
From 1626 to 1941, the owners of the Estate were the Marquises Albicini.
In 1941 the property passed to Commendator Giuseppe Ricci, an entrepreneur from Forlì. In the years of the Second World War, the history of Pandolfa changed its mark. It was occupied by the Germans and then attacked by Polish troops, while many displaced people found refuge in its cellars. Once peace was restored, in the 50s, Giuseppe Ricci began the renovation of the Estate and also began to rethink agricultural production, he bought two adjacent farms and planted vines of Sangiovese, Trebbiano and Albana. Pandolfa is still owned by Ricci's granddaughter, Paola Piscopo, who has used all her enthusiasm to give the Estate back an important role in the territory.
Today it is her son, Marco Cirese - the fourth generation - who has taken over the ranks of this history, with the intention of making the winery a place of excellence, linking the family history with the territory, in a constant dialogue with the traditions of these places and the native grape varieties.
