Description
What kind of wine it is
Vigna del Generale by Fattoria Nicolucci is a still red wine that expresses the soul of Romagna Sangiovese Superiore Riserva. Made from Sangiovese grapes, it displays a bright ruby hue with garnet reflections. The aromatic profile is complex, with pronounced notes of graphite, coffee and chocolate blending with scents of violet, pomegranate and forest fruits. On the palate it is elegant, well-structured and enveloping, guided by lively tannins towards a long and smooth finish. It is ideal for pairing with braised red meats, game and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
It originates in Emilia-Romagna, in the hilly area of Predappio Alta at around three hundred metres above sea level. The vines of the historic Vigna del Generale, which reach up to ninety years of age, benefit from a continental climate characterised by hot summers and humid winters. The soils have a marked clay and limestone composition, enriched with sulphur and sulphurous minerals that give the sip a distinct savoury character. Fattoria Nicolucci cultivates these plots in harmony with the natural growth cycles to fully reflect the identity of the terroir of origin.
How it is produced
Vinification follows a organic and sustainable approach, starting with the manual harvesting of the bunches. After fermentation, the wine rests for two years in oak barrels, a fundamental stage for defining the structure and integrating the spicy texture. Ageing continues for several months in the bottle, smoothing the taste components before release. Characterised by great ageing potential, this red continues to evolve positively over time. It is recommended to decant it for about an hour before serving to appreciate every olfactory nuance.
History and Curiosities
Produced in Predappio Alta, Vigna del Generale represents the excellence of Fattoria Nicolucci, a historic family-run estate active since 1885. This authentic Sangiovese comes from vines that are around ninety years old, cultivated using organic and sustainable practices. The grapes, harvested strictly by hand, result in a limited production. Such meticulous care yields a red wine with extraordinary ageing potential, capable of evolving with elegance and softening for over twenty years.

Fattoria Nicolucci is a typical Italian estate, a family run farm driven by the concept that the variety must match the terroir and climate; that’s why it continues to set the standard for Romagna and remains at the forefront of the region’s top wine producers. Today, the winery and vineyards are operated under the same guiding principles with fourth generation wine-dresser Alessandro at the helm. Predappio has its own microclimates, its own traditions, and its own history, all of which are reflected in the wine produced at Fattoria Nicolucci. Read more
