Description
What kind of wine is it
Molener Extra Brut is a sparkling rosé wine that expresses a pronounced intensity of flavour. The result of a meticulous blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, this wine comes to life through the rigorous Traditional Method, offering in the glass a delicate cherry-pink hue. On the nose, it develops defined aromas of red fruits intertwined with fragrant notes of bread crust. The palate reveals a very dry character and a marked acidic tension, balanced by an enveloping creaminess and a clear mineral imprint. The finish is distinguished by typical oxidative nuances and a lively, persistent perlage.
Where does it come from
This sparkling wine is born in the heart of Gussago, within the renowned Franciacorta region, where the characteristics of the soil give the wines a distinctive structure. The signature is that of Nicola Gatta, a winemaker who embraces an artisanal philosophy aimed at enhancing the identity of the terroir in a direct and authentic way. The name chosen for the wine derives from “Moliner”, the historic nickname of his miller family. Every glass reflects this strong territorial bond, offering a pure and decisive interpretation of the Lombardy landscape.
How is it produced
The cellar work follows principles of minimal intervention to preserve the integrity of the fruit. Fermentation starts spontaneously thanks to the exclusive action of indigenous yeasts. The subsequent prise de mousse in the bottle involves a very long 90-month maturation on the lees, a prolonged rest that enriches the wine with complexity and encourages the development of its typical oxidative style. The entire production process takes place without the addition of sulphites, ensuring a faithful expression of the grape. The disgorgement specifics and technical details complete the transparency of this rigorous artisanal process.
History and Curiosities
This traditional method sparkling wine originates in Gussago from the artisanal vision of Nicola Gatta and pays tribute to his family's nickname as millers. Made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes through spontaneous fermentations, it expresses the terroir uncompromisingly and without added sulphites. The long ageing on the lees for around 90 moons gives a rich and strictly extra brut sip, where a pronounced acidic tension is beautifully balanced with elegant oxidative notes, a vibrant minerality and a creamy texture, culminating in a lively and persistent perlage.

"I take my choices step by step: sometimes going forward, sometimes going backwards. My method is classic, but it wants to be a hymn to diversity. The principle is to enhance a territory that is different in nature and origin, with the aim of obtaining wines that represent it without compromise." (Nicola Gatta) Read more
