Description
What kind of wine it is
The Romagna Sangiovese Modigliana Tramazo by Mutiliana precisely expresses the character of Sangiovese from Emilia-Romagna. Its brilliant ruby red colour anticipates a clear aromatic profile of cherry, orange, violet, spices and balsamic notes. On the palate, it reveals an enveloping dynamism, supported by a pronounced acidity and fine-grained tannins, finishing with a persistent, fruity and vegetal aftertaste. After decanting for an hour, it pairs perfectly with cheeses, pork dishes and an exquisite veal fillet Rossini.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from twelve hectares of vineyards stretching between the valleys of Acerata, Tramazzo and Ibola, reaching up to the Apennine hills. This pedoclimatic ecosystem defines the authenticity of Romagna Sangiovese Modigliana. The commitment to faithfully expressing the territory is demonstrated by membership of the Stella dell’Appennino association, dedicated to protecting the landscape and local wine production. Through meticulous selection of the grape bunches, the perfect integrity of the raw material is ensured.
How it is produced
The production process is based on vinification in steel with long macerations on the skins to encourage phenolic extraction. This is followed by eleven months of ageing exclusively in cement tanks, a technique chosen to maintain the total purity of the fruit and a clear aromatic definition. Overseen by oenologist Francesco Bordini, the wine has a remarkable propensity for ageing, able to evolve over five to ten years. The rigour of this approach is recognised by wine critics, with ninety-one points from James Suckling and three Veronelli stars.
History and Curiosities
The Romagna DOC Sangiovese Modigliana Tramazo 2021 from Mutiliana originates in the Apennines, between the valleys of Acerata, Tramazzo and Ibola. This outstanding wine, overseen by Francesco Bordini, is the result of a meticulous selection of 100% Sangiovese grapes and lengthy macerations. Vinification in steel and 11 months of ageing in cement preserve its authenticity and territorial character.
