Description
What kind of wine it is
The Piemonte Rosso Fuori Catalogo by Montalbera is made from a blend of Barbera and Ruchè. In the glass, it displays a bright red colour with violet highlights, which tend towards garnet as the wine matures. On the nose, it reveals an intense fruity profile, dominated by notes of red fruits and apricot. The palate is delicate yet full-bodied, characterised by a rounded smoothness and hints of wild berry jam. Its structure pairs excellently with game and cheeses, as well as main courses based on pork.
Where it comes from
The grapes are sourced from the areas of Castagnole Monferrato and Montemagno. The hillside vineyards, set in a beautiful landscape between Monferrato and the Langhe, benefit from ideal exposures for vine cultivation. The roots delve into clay and limestone soils, which give the wine a natural aromatic concentration. The low Guyot training system, with targeted pruning, ensures balanced yields and harmonious ripening, allowing the authentic richness of the Piedmontese territory to be found in the glass.
How it is produced
The production process follows the principles of red wine vinification, beginning with the harvest of grapes in a slightly overripe state. This technique enriches the must during the maceration phase on the skins. Ageing in stainless steel is chosen to preserve the absolute clarity of the fruit, before an appropriate period of rest in the bottle at a controlled temperature. To best appreciate its balance, it is recommended to serve it at between 16 and 18 °C, suggesting the wine be allowed to breathe before tasting to encourage the perfect expression of its bouquet.

In the mid-1980s, the Morando family began expanding their property by purchasing land in adjacent territories and planting it with new grapevines, prevalently Ruchè; they continue to grow their landholdings. Today, a continuous stretch of vineyard-covered land encircles the winery. The vineyards are planted entirely on hillsides, giving the vines different expositions and soil, from clay to limestone.
A unique aspect that has always distinguished Montalbera in the Piedmontese winemaking landscape is that the winery sits astride two of the region’s most important winemaking zones: the Monferrato and the Langhe. Read more
